The week will feature interviews, Q&As and performances that acknowledge today’s challenging political reality, while showcasing what’s doable and sparks joy in the climate community.

We’ll be updating the tickets with more programs and speakers as they get confirmed, so stay tuned for updates!

Thursday’s programs include:

11:00 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. | Alexis Madrigal, Ms. Margaret Gordon, and the Fight to Keep Coal Out of Oakland

Coal terminals don’t just pollute the air — they can devastate the health of nearby communities, fueling cases of asthma, heart disease, respiratory and cardiovascular hospitalizations, and even death. Ms. Margaret Gordon is an environmental justice leader and a founding member of the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project. Her tireless work to keep coal out of Oakland and promote community health is at the heart of Journalist and the co-host of KQED’s Forum, Alexis Madrigal's, new book, “The Pacific Circuit”.

Join Ms. Gordon and Madrigal for a conversation about environmental justice, urban life in the age of big tech and globalization and the power of community resilience. The event will be followed by a book signing.

11:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. | Abby Reyes: Tales of Murder, Oil Wars, and the Rise of Climate Justice

After Abby Reyes' partner and two other land rights advocates were murdered near Indigenous U’wa territory in Colombia in 1999, Reyes struggled to recover from her loss and pursue justice at the same time. “I walked into adulthood through the gates of these murders,” she writes in her new book “Truth Demands.” “I felt pressed up against the machinery of fossil fuel extraction, tied there by the dismal facts of murders known and unknown. These circumstances sped up my training as a human being…” — a training that ultimately led to a victory for the U’wa people.

Today, Reyes directs the Community Resilience Projects at UC Irvine, where she brings together teams of faculty, students, and community collaborators to address environmental, health, and social justice challenges.

Join Climate One Co-Host Kousha Navidar in conversation with Reyes as they explore what it takes to grow into our humanity and stand up alongside climate-vulnerable communities.
