Norman Rogers
Second Vice President of United Steelworkers, Local 675
Norman Rogers has been a firefighter, looked after safety and maintenance portfolios at petrochemical companies, and is a senior union member for California chapter of United Steelworkers--which plays a vital role in articulating workers' concerns about transitioning away from dirty energy. And he has a plan which he has shared with the state and federal authorities: The money from California’s budget, federal funds and bonds, and new revenue sources can fund $70 billion of public investments annually in safety net programs as well as renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, infrastructure upgrades and ecological agriculture. He argues that the best chance to create good new jobs for fossil fuel workers and others is by investing in California’s climate goals.
