Hurricane Specialist, WTVJ NBC6 Miami

John Morales is an atmospheric & environmental scientist at ClimaData Corporation, specializing in forensic meteorology and weather consulting. He is also Hurricane Specialist at WTVJ NBC6 in Miami, and a climate change columnist for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

His four decade long career includes civil service as a forecaster for NOAA’s National Weather Service, as well as decades of experience as a Certified Consulting and Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. He was a pioneer in on-air climate communications — providing climate context on his TV and social media platforms for over 25 years. As a scientist, Morales was exalted to Honorary Member of the American Meteorological Society. As a communicator, he was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle.

In 2023, Morales became a trustee at Cornell University, where he also serves on the external advisory boards for the Atkinson Center for Sustainability and the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. Morales also serves on the board of directors of Florida’s CLEO Institute — empowering communities to act on climate and champion solutions.

Morales attained his undergraduate degree in atmospheric sciences from Cornell University and a master’s degree in environmental sciences and policy at Johns Hopkins University.
