Diane Wilson, a fourth generation fisherwoman and environmental activist, is founder and director of San Antonio Bay Waterkeeper. Her work against Formosa Plastics resulted in a $50 million settlement, the largest citizen-led suit in the history of the Clean Water Act. Despite the "zero discharge" agreement, Formosa Plastics has tallied over 600 violations totaling over $17 million since June 2021. The fines are used to fund local projects including habitat restoration, environmental research, and the establishment of a fishing cooperative to revive the local fishing community.
In recognition of her work, Wilson received the 2023 Goldman Environmental Prize for North America.
