Brian Muir grew up in Idaho Falls Idaho as the oldest of 12 children. He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he met his wife Michelle of Lander, Wyoming. They raised their two sons and two daughters in North Salt Lake City and now have 8 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, after 40 years of marriage. After graduating with his MPA he served on the North Salt Lake City Council and started a local government consulting firm, The James Madison Group, where he helped city and county governments create strategic and economic development plans. Before becoming the City Administrator for Kemmerer, Wyoming in 2019, he had consulted over 190 government agencies in 18 states on best practices.
Muir's main objective in coming to Kemmerer was to strengthen and develop the economy and community using techniques he practiced in other communities. He led the project team that helped Kemmerer get the TerraPower Natrium™ advanced nuclear power plant. He is excited to help continue creating a more diversified energy economy in Kemmerer that can be a model for other communities in Wyoming and across the country. Just as he saw his hometown of Idaho Falls thrive economically with nuclear power, he hopes the same for others.
