Andy Karsner

Former Assistant Energy Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, U.S. Department of Energy

Andy Karsner’s entrepreneurial leadership has been associated with both venture capital and private equity portfolios throughout the past decade. With responsibilities in guidance and holdings for some of the most successful technology startups, from solar energy to biotech, Karsner is currently a senior strategist at X, the moonshot factory, where he brings an entrepreneurial focus to economic competitiveness, global security and environmental sustainability. Prior to public service, Karsner held several global leadership positions, including founder and CEO of Enercorp, a windpower development firm and international agent of Vestas, involved in project development, management and financing of energy infrastructure as well as being director and senior development manager for Wartsila Power Development and other multinational energy and development firms.

Karsner is also executive chairman of Manifest Energy. He is a Precourt Energy Scholar, lecturer and Hoover Visiting Fellow at Stanford University. He is a recipient of the “President's Award” from the United States Green Building Council and top honors from the United States Energy Association and the Alliance to Save Energy.
