Founder, Clean Energy Works

As the founder of Clean Energy Works, Dr. Holmes Hummel connects champions of energy efficiency and renewable energy with resources that accelerate investment in the deployment of clean energy solutions. In addition, Hummel serves on the board of Cleantech Open, the world’s largest accelerator built to find, fund, and foster the most promising cleantech startups. Previously, Hummel served as the Senior Policy Advisor in the Department of Energy’s Office of Policy & International Affairs from 2009-2013. In that capacity, Hummel engaged a wide range of industry and public interest stakeholders to inform energy policy decisions on such topics as clean energy finance, water-energy interdependency and natural gas resource development. As the champion for the Pay As You Save system, Hummel led Clean Energy Works to win the FiRe Award for high-impact innovation at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance “Future of Energy Summit.”

Hummel earned a doctorate degree from Stanford University for interdisciplinary research on energy technology scenarios that achieve 100% clean energy for all. While there, Hummel researched ways to interpret energy scenarios for climate stabilization and earned a Switzer Environmental Fellowship.
