As the Consul General for Norway in San Francisco, Hilde Janne Skorpen promotes sound management of resources and sustainable commercial activities in the Arctic. Of particular concern is how climate change and the accelerated melting of the polar ice cap affect the human habitat and wildlife in the region. Prior to her current posting, Skorpen served as the Foreign Ministry’s senior advisor to the Norwegian National Defense College. She has also been Ambassador for Disarmament and Non-proliferation, served as Deputy Head of the Norwegian Mission to the UN in Geneva, and been posted to the Norwegian delegation to NATO in Brussels and to the Norwegian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
She earned a Ph.D. in Political Science at Boston University.
